Flags are at full staff.

Governor Katie Hobbs ordered flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, May 6, in honor of Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Governor Hobbs issued the following statement: 

“On Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor and remember the officers who lived a life of service to others and made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe,” said Governor Hobbs. “We mourn these fallen heroes and ensure that the legacy of their service is forever remembered for generations to come.” 

Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, May 3, 2024, in honor and respect of Yuma City Councilman Gary Knight, who passed away on April 14, 2024. 

A native of Yuma, Gary was a proud veteran and business owner and came out of retirement to serve the people of Yuma. He was elected to the City council in 2013 and also served as Deputy Mayor from 2017-2019, was on the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization Executive Board, Greater Yuma Port Authority Executive Board, represented the City on both the Chamber Transportation and Chamber Legislative Affairs Committees and was appointed by Governor Ducey to the State Transportation Board. 

Governor Hobbs issued the following statement: 

“I was saddened to hear of the passing of Councilman Gary Knight, who was an unwavering supporter and advocate of the people of Yuma. My thoughts are with his wife Bonnie, his kids and the entire Yuma community as they grieve. I have ordered flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, the day of interment, to honor his life of service.”

Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, May 2, 2024 for the interment of former Speaker Jim Weiers, who passed away on April 19. 

Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are encouraged to join in this tribute.

Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, April 22, 2024 and on day of interment,  in memory of former Speaker Jim Weiers, who passed away on Friday. 

Speaker Weiers was a longtime public servant, serving terms in both the House and Senate from 1994 to 2013. He was Speaker of the House from 1999-2001 and from 2005-2009.  He was an engaging storyteller with a heart for servant leadership. 

Governor Hobbs issued the following statement: 

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Speaker Weiers, a man who worked tirelessly for his community and who was a champion of maintaining positive bipartisan relationships in order to better serve the people of Arizona. Our thoughts are with his wife Gina and his entire family during this difficult time. I have ordered flags to fly at half-staff on Monday and on the day of his interment to honor his life and legacy.”  

Half-staff for the day of interment will be communicated once the date is finalized.

Governor Katie Hobbs has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, April 14, 2024 in memory of Army veteran and long time public servant Paul Babbitt Jr. who passed away on April 4, 2024. 

Paul spent nearly 30 years serving the citizens of Northern Arizona in a variety of local government roles including on the Flagstaff City Council, and as Vice Mayor and Mayor. He was appointed to the Coconino County Board of Supervisors in 1986 and served until 2004. He was involved in the health and vitality of his local community and had a genuine love for people. 

Governor Hobbs issued the following statement: 

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Paul Babbitt Jr., a true Arizona statesman whose leadership and commitment to his local community will be remembered for generations to come. I have ordered flags to fly at half-staff on the day of his interment to honor his life and legacy.”
